We have opportunities for enthusiastic, self motivated Biomedical Scientists in our Microbiology department at Northwick Park Hospital.

 

The department processes an interesting and varied workload arising from a diverse mix of community and hospital locations, including the largest Infectious Diseases and Tropical Medicine department in the country, genitourinary medicine, maxillofacial units and a specialist bowel diseases hospital. The laboratories are spacious, recently refurbished, well equipped including a total laboratory automation system and we are currently completing a programme of upgrading blood culture, liquid TB, sensitivity and identification equipment. This is an exciting period of evolution in modern microbiology practice and the successful applicant will be a key member of the department contributing significantly to the provision of the clinical diagnostic service.

 

Candidates should be a registered Biomedical Scientist with the HCPC and ideally have post registration bacteriology experience equivalent to specialist diploma level, or be nearing completion of a specialist portfolio. We would also consider exceptional individuals who are ready to undertake a specialist portfolio.

The department operates a continuous processing service and, as part of the role, participation in shift working will be required.

Full Time Sample Reception Officer

We have a vacancy for a Full Time Sample Reception Officer in our Genetics Department at our new laboratories in the Halo Building.  This lab processes a wide range of samples for genetic testing, including none invasive prenatal testing (NIPT).

 

Duties will include receiving samples into the laboratory, entering demographics onto the LIM system (WinPath), organising and distributing samples to appropriate areas. They will receive, and where necessary, act upon, incoming calls to the laboratory and communicate with clients, either by phone or email, to resolve any discrepancies or omissions on assay request paperwork.

 

The successful candidate will be familiar with a laboratory/administration environment and be able to work to laboratory SOP’s.

We have a vacancy for a BMS in Haematology/Blood Transfusion at Ealing Hospital. Responsibilities will include the analysis of patient samples by the application of haematological technology and manual methods. Diagnostic work will include examination of blood samples, investigating abnormalities of blood cells and their biochemical functions and analysing samples to ensure safe blood transfusion practices by the application of blood transfusion technology.

 

You will utilise the most up to date scientific methods in conjunction with traditional methods of microscopy and antigen/antibody-complex diagnostics. Diagnostic work will include the examination of blood and plasma to identify blood groups and antibody status. You will provide blood and blood products to patients in a safe and timely manner and respond appropriately to major incidents in accordance with the Trust Major Incident policy, thus ensuring blood and blood products are rapidly available.
